Ed Mangano's networking coordinators, Billy Florio and Pete DiSilvio recently commented on the unresolved race for Nassau County executive and the future of the Mangano campaign. Florio describes an overall feeling of optimism in the Mangano camp election night. "We were very optimistic about this because we weren't sure we got our message out, but I think we did considering the polling results that came in." Mangano's run was often described as not capable of beating incumbent Tom Suozzi, but Florio said they remained optimistic. "We're very neck and neck and I'll remind you that we weren't supposed to win. We were not supposed to get as close as we have."DiSilvio had his own thoughts on the build up to an unresolved election. "I think for the moment there was pure electricity. There were a lot of nerves the whole night. There was one point where we were up by like 4,000 votes and we thought we had it. It went back and forth.” Of the feelings in the room, though, when it became apparent that there would be no winner declared, DiSilvio said, “It took the wind out of our sails. It's like Christmas morning and your parents tell you to wait for New Year's." As for how long voters will have to wait to find out who won, Florio hopes for a couple weeks. "I can't see this stretching out passed a month." DiSilvio is also feeling pretty high spirited about the wait time. "We feel like from all reports we should know the winner by the first week of December. We're pretty confident it's going to be Ed.” Both networking coordinators agreed that Mangano’s campaign made it this far because of everyone involved. "It's a team effort. Everyone in the campaign did their jobs very well. And Ed just ran a good campaign." |
