Hello and welcome to Nassau News Live. Tonight we'll be bringing you the latest local news from Nassau County and beyond. Nassau News Live is a hyper-local - community journalism website run by Hofstra University students. Our goal is to bring you, the community, quality news using the latest online tools. Every week this broadcast will highlight some of our top stories, but please check our website for the latest developments. Here are tonight's top stories.

On Wednesday, President Barack Obama reached his 100th day in office.  Nassau News Live reporter Emily Bache spoke with students and faculty at Hofstra University on his performance so far.

New York Senator Charles Schumer is calling on the Department of Transportation to warn citizens ahead of time when it plans to send-low flying aircraft around New York City after an Air Force One photo-op on Monday surprised and panicked city dwellers, who feared another 9/11-style attack.  Schumer laid blame on the FAA for not "shouting this information from the rooftops."

The FAA had informed the New York Police Department of the plans to fly the plane at around 1,500 feet above lower Manhattan. However, the FAA requested that the plans not be released to the public or the media, according to Schumer.

Senator Schumer isn’t the only elected official who found the event disturbing. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg called the stunt "insensitive,” while President Barack Obama was said to be "furious.”

Two local state senators are divided on how they would vote for Governor Patterson's proposed marriage equality bill if it came to the floor in Albany. According to Republican Senator Dean Skelos's office, he is opposed to the bill because it redefines the definition of traditional marriage between one man and one woman, while Democrat Senator Craig M. Johnson he says he supports marriage equality because, well,  it’s about equality.

The governor’s marriage equality bill would allow same-sex couples the same rights and treatment under the law that opposite-sex partners enjoy, but Gov. Paterson recently decided not to send the bill to a vote in Albany until he believes a ‘yes’ vote is locked up. Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont and Iowa have all legalized gay marriage and the three other New England States are currently in a campaign to legalized it by 2012.

In sports, we're nearing the end of the high school lacrosse season and Manhasset High School is one of the favorites for this year's Nassau County championship.  Nassau News Live's Chari Bayanker filed this report on the Indians.

Just four days after an easy 10-3 win for the Hofstra Pride over Villanova’s Wildcats, they faced off again at James M. Shuart Stadium on Wednesday night. A close game ended in disappointment for the Pride when the Wildcats walked away with a 9-7 win, leaving the Pride eliminated from the postseason tournament.

This week in local sports, the East Coast Conference softball tournament kicked off Wednesday as CW Post topped Queens 4-2. Shannon Kulnis went 2-3 with a home run and 2 RBI for Post. In other ECC tourney action, NYIT shut out Molloy 5-0 to advance. Nina Cesare threw a complete game two hitter with 7 strikeouts to notch the win for NYIT.

In boys high school lacrosse, Garden City blasted Carey 11-2 to stay perfect in conference play at 4-0. Will Fuller led the Trojans with three goals and an assist. Meanwhile, the Hempstead boys lacrosse team picked up their 11th win of the season with a 12-8 win over St. Dominic on Wednesday. Justin Gill led Hempstead with a pair of goals and an assist.

Don't expect a repeat of last weekend's amazing weather, with weather.com predicting three days of rain and temperatures reaching only the mid-sixties.
